THANK GOD CAMEROON HAS OIL

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy? Michelle Obama? Neither of these glamorous first ladies can compare to style icon Chantal Biya, the first lady of Cameroon... Chantal even showed up the Pope’s miter with her jaunty head wrap, which was adorned with tasteful crosses for the occasion. No further deliberation is necessary; it’s time to declare Mrs Biya a saint of style.

President Biya’s second wife is a fashion icon in the West African country. Among Cameroonian women, Mrs Biya is famous for her hairstyles. Her signature style is called the banane, and is used for formal occasions. she  has popularized other styles that are collectively known as the Chantal Biya.

Being married to a president is so imperative and Ms Biya makes quite an impression with her exotic wardrobes and her shopping trips with her entourage.
Chantal Biya has bold style and big hair to say the least.

Although her personal outfits may not be everybody’s cup of tea, her unforgettable ensembles never leave her unnoticed.

Chantal has modeled for designers like Chanel and Dior. given her taste and extravagances i can comfortably say her expenses can ran a country bankrupt thank God Cameroon has oil

PEPLUMS

In January, vogue called the peplum “spring’s biggest silhouette story”, a statement which, I eagerly hoped, meant that the peplum would gently breeze away from popularity. I don’t know why, but I never warmed to the abstract peplum shape, I think i’ve always associated with a woman’s sneaky attempt at hiding a bloated or over indulged stomach rather than being anything truly cool. However, the verdict is in, and the peplum is going nowhere. SOB. Well, I sobbed at first, but as any true fashion robot, and having seen a black peplum dress in topshop the other day that looked surprisingly elegant, I have decided to give the peplum a second chance, the lucky thing.
peplums were introduced in the 19th century. They are an extra material that is sewn on tops, pants or skirts to provide the illusion of curvy hips or waist. This trend had its heydays in the 40’s and 80’s and now it’s back . With peplums, you don’t need to accessorize much so you won’t end up looking too busy which may put your peplums away from the attention. With the variety of versatile  peplum dresses to choose from, there’s always the design and color, there’s always something for everyone.
The peplum skirt creates the illusion of perfect symmetry on the body. The fabric overlaying the hips makes them seem proportionate to the shoulders. Let the peplum skirt take centre stage in your wardrobe by styling it with a plain singlet.
Be mindful, once again, of your body type when picking this style for the coming season. If you have a larger bottom, a peplum skirt wouldn’t be a wise choice for you and you should opt for the peplum top instead.

                                               have always admired Blake Lively
style. when i saw this photo of hers
rocking the black peplum dress i
dint "curse" the peplum anymore
my thoughts were "wow, darm that looks hot"
Guess the peplum is here to stay and with the small stomach that  i have developed of late  read am shedding the excess fat soon then the peplum it is a must have for now.
I have come up with a few Dos and Donts for wearing a peplum

DO

  • Wear peplum with trousers, skinny or wide-legged pants, all depending on how long your legs are.
  • Style the colours according to the proportion of your body. For example: wear a darker tone peplum at the top to minimise broad shoulders and larger busts and team it with a lighter shade at the bottom. On the other hand            a  dark    colour on the bottom with a light peplumed top visually slims the bottom half.
  • Allow peplums to make friends with other key trend pieces in your wardrobe                                     Don’t be afraid to style prints, lace or mesh detailing with the peplum.

DONT

  • Wear ankle strap shoes . Since the horizontal line of the peplum is already breaking the natural long lines of the body, avoid another distraction. Wear court shoes or ankle booties.
  • Choose fabrics that cling to you body, especially if you’re conscious. The peplum dress can be nasty in exemplifying every curve of your body. Pick from knits, chiffon and light cotton.
  • Mindlessly shop without giving your body a preview of the peplum. Do go to the shops and try on a few peplum pieces to test drive their fit on your body before making a purchase

FACTS ABOUT GMOS

on July 1st the Goverment legalised the growth and sale of Genetically Modified foods. which has been the debate this week and i wish to add my voice .Do Kenyans know what are genetically modified foods? what are the advantages and disadvantages of GMOs Genetically Modified foods or GMOs (genetically modified organisms) is most commonly used to refer to crop plants created for consumption using the latest molecular biology  techiniques. These plants have been modified in the laboratory to enhance desired traits such as increased resistance to herbicides or improved nutritional content.
The benefits of GMOs include:
Reduction in malnutrition especially in the third world countries where poor people rely on a single crop like rice or maize as the main staple of their diet which does not contain adequate amounts of all necessary minerals and vitamins to prevent malnutrition. if these foods could be genetically engineered to contain additional vitanmins and minerals, nutrient deficiencies could be allevated.
Not all GM plants are grown as crops, soil and groundwater pollutions continues to be a problem wold wide. plants such as poplar trees have been genetically engineered to clean up heavy metal pollution from contaminated soil.

pest resistance. Growing GM foods such as B.t. corn can help eliminate application off chemical pesticides .Consumers prefer to eat food taht has not been treated with pesticides because of the potential health hazards.  Run off of agricultural wastes from excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers can poison water supply and cause harm to the enviroment.
The disadvantages are; allergies as reported in the USA and Europe  and unknown effects on human health. my concern is with the anti GMO lobby groups who claim that its not been proven beyond reasonable doubt how safe is genetic engineering and are even calling for demonstrations. besides people may have been consuming GMOs knowingly or unknowingly if the reports of presence of GMO maize in the country is anything to go buy. All i ask for is clea labels so taht consumers can telll which are and which are not GMOs and they are leeft to make their own choice. its also important that GOK educates the consumers on GMOs sothat they know what they are consuming.
